Powerful blanket exercise sparks reflection and connection in our new home<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As the Prescott Group settles into our new home at 5515 Clyde Street, we recognize that this transition requires more than just moving boxes and setting up desks. Belonging has always been at the heart of who we are, and our new space is a chance to renew that commitment together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On September 2, all Prescott staff members gathered to participate in a Blanket Exercise\u2014a meaningful, interactive learning experience developed in collaboration with Indigenous Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and educators. Led by facilitators Fred Martin and Ren\u00e9e Pye, the exercise encouraged us to explore histories of land, displacement, community, and resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exercise in reconciliation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

During the three-hour workshop, we walked across blankets representing the land now called Canada. As the blankets shifted and shrank, we gained a brief understanding of the effects of colonization, broken treaties, and community displacement. Through personal mapping, storytelling, and reflection, we explored what it means to lose access to the spaces we rely on\u2014and what it takes to rebuild connection and belonging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exercise concluded with a Talking Circle, where staff had the chance to share openly and listen deeply. This moment of reflection was both grounding and forward-looking, reminding us that reconciliation is not a one-time event, but a practice we carry into our work and relationships every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we look forward to the grand opening of Progress Place, the Blanket Exercise serves as an important milestone of this new chapter. It reminded us that fostering a sense of belonging starts with truth, respect, and understanding. With these lessons in mind, we are dedicated to making our new space more than just walls and windows \u2014 it is a place where everyone truly belongs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
